History KS4
In GCSE SHP History students will study the people, events and changes in the past. It is a study of change and continuity; how the past affects the present; remains of the past around us; and why people acted as they did in the past.
Student’s will study the Arab-Israeli Conflict in Year 9. They will look at the background to this important conflict as well as the attempts for peace, the effects on the wider world and current developments. In Year 10 students study how medicine has developed through periods in time e.g. Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, The Dark Ages, the Renaissance and 18th-21st Century. The study shows how and why things change over time and how complicated that process was. We look at how our knowledge and ideas about disease, treatments, public health and surgery have changed over time. In Year 11 students will continue their study of Medicine through time and will begin to study Germany in 1918-1945. Students will look in detail at the problems created for the German people by the signing of the Treaty of Versailles and how this led to the Rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. You will then study how the Nazi’s changed the lives of the German people and how their control prevented any strength of opposition to their rule, being formed.
