Outline of Course: (currently being offered)
AS Level Pupils to Study Units 1 and 2 – Introduction the Religious Ethics
Unit 1 – The way of submission – Includes topics on the Qur’an, 5 Pillars, Risalah and Tawhid
Unit 2 – The Life of the Prophet – includes topics on Jahiliyyah, Makkah 610-622 ce, Madinah 622-632ce and the death of the Prophet , the emergence of the caliphate and the Sunni/Shia divide.
A2 Level Pupils to study units 3 and 4
Unit 3 – Studies in Religion – Islam. This unit includes topics on the Shariah and the Muslim way of life, Shia Islam, God and humanity and Women and family life.
Unit 4- Religion and Human Experience. Pupils will do an in depth study on religious experience, what is , why it happens, hoe it sets the foundations of a particular religion and the methods to establish the validity of a religious experience
Assessment
AS - Units 1 and 2. Each is 50% of AS and 25% of A-level, each unit is a 1 hour 15 min written exam. Each unit is worth 50 marks (candidates must answer 2 essay questions from a choice of 4)
A2 - Unit 3 25% of A-level, 1 hour 30 min written exam worth 100 marks. Pupils must answer 2 structured essay from a choice of 4
Unit 4 25% of A-level , 1 hour 30min exam worth 75 marks, one extended essay
