Art KS5
A Level Art is an option for pupils who have achieved well at GCSE. It expands upon their understanding and skill and encourages a much more in depth and theoretical approach to the subject. Pupils are expected to show a passion and flair for the subject and a strong interest in learning about the work of others.
Pupils, in a similar way to CGSE, work through a coursework project followed by a practical exam. They are required to be much more analytical about their own and the work of others and explore the chosen theme in greater depth. Lessons will be a mix of practical demonstrations, art theory and guided independent study. Those pupils continuing on to take A2 will also be required to carry out an illustrated personal study consisting of 3000 words.
A Level art provides the opportunity to explore and develop sophisticated practical skills and adopt a personal and independent approach to study. It improves pupil’s personal expression, analytical abilities and conceptual thinking. It also provides a stepping stone to careers such as Architecture, Fashion, furniture and interior design, photography, illustration and game design.
