Year 6 Transition
The transition from primary school to secondary school is a very important stage for children and can cause anxiety and concern. Our aim is to ensure that all students feel as comfortable as possible, as quickly as possible so that they can continue to enjoy and achieve. We have a comprehensive transition programme so that we can support our students in changing schools
Primary school Liaison
We maintain close links with our local primary schools and keep students up to date with visits by the Learning Manager. All Year 6 teachers and SENCOs are interviewed so that we can get as much information about your child as possible including academic attainment and SEN information, friendship groupings, aspects of social, emotional or medical concerns and any other information deemed to be relevant to the transition process. This allows us to continue to support your child and ensure that they make progress.
Open Evening
An Open Evening and coffee mornings are held in September for Year 6 parents for the next year’s intake. This allows you to gather information regarding the school and to ask any questions you may have about admissions.
An Open Evening is held in March for all children who have been offered a place at Heartlands Academy and for those who had not yet chosen a school place. It is an opportunity to meet the Principal, Learning Manager, senior members of staff, subject teachers and support staff.
Our transition programme
All students are invited to take part in our transition programme at the academy. Students attend the academy for one day a week for five weeks during the Summer term and take part in typical lessons all day. This is a good way for students to get to know key staff and make new friends ready for September.
